A Letter of Commendation from Maestro Andrew Sewell, former Wichita Symphony Orchestra Conductor
I
would like to endorse the value of Camp AllegroWichita. Many students
have the opportunity to challenge themselves, to receive training and
coaching on their instruments and be supported by an excellent group of
parents, teachers and volunteers. There are many disciplines offered
from small group ensembles, chamber music, piano, organ, voice, choir,
orchestra, band, jazz band, music theory and history, fiddling and jazz
improvisation. This is a great way to introduce music students from
beginning to advanced skill in a week-long day camp situation. It will
improve their knowledge and help them in their musical endeavors. I
recommend this program.

Our History
Camp Allegro was started under the aegis of
Chamber Music at The Barn, the chamber music concert series held every
summer at Prairie Pines Christmas Tree Farm, www.cmatb.org. The camp
developed over seven seasons, expanding the musical offerings and
adding another one-week session.
In
January 2009, it was decided that the camp would be discontinued;
however, overwhelming response from the campers, parents, and teachers
resulted in the creation of a new nonprofit program, christened Camp
Allegro Wichita, which bowed in the summer of 2009. Many of the
previous teachers volunteered their time for this transitional camp,
held at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The all-volunteer roster of
directors, teachers, and support staff enjoyed the participation of
over one hundred campers, including children ages three to six, who
took part in Kinderlab, our "camp-within-a-camp."
The tradition continues in Summer 2010. Camp Allegro Wichita remains vital to the young people of our community.
Corps of Volunteers
Many thanks to our volunteers who have offered their time to support
the ongoing program of our camp. We couldn't do it without you!
